The Preposition

Off

1. Off মুলতঃ Adverb হিসেবে ব্যবহৃত হয়। তবে এখানে Preposition হিসেবে কিছু ব্যবহার দেখানো হল।

2. কাছাকাছি ঘেঁষে নয়, দূরে এ রকম বোঝাতে - Take the chair off the room. Keep off the plant.

3. বিচ্ছিন্নতা বা বিচ্যুতি বোঝাতে - Take the shoes off your feet.

4. অভ্যস্ততা বোঝাতে -The patient is off his meal. For some reasons, he is off his jovial mood.

5. সমুদ্রের কাছাকাছি -We went off the shore.

Near নিকটে

Near + স্থান বাংলায় অর্থ হবে নিকটে He lives near the sea/ the college/Taltala market.

Towards দিকে

Towards + স্থান বাংলায় অর্থ হবে দিকে -- He went towards the sea/ the college/Taltala market.

Between/Among মধ্যে

দুই জনের/দুইটা জিনিষের মধ্যে বুঝাতে between বসে আর দুই এর বেশী বুঝালে among বসে যেমন: a. ‘B’ comes between A and C.    b. He divided the money between the two children.

Along (বরাবর)

1. যখন বরাবর বুঝায় তখন along বসে। যেমন:--We walked along the road.

2. along (এদিক থেকে অন্য দিকে) যখন কোন কিছুর এক পাশ থেকে অন্য পাশে বুঝায় তখন along বসে।

যেমন:- A small river goes along the river.

Round/Around(চারপাশে)

1. round/around+Noun/Pronoun বাংলায় অর্থ হবে চারপাশে  যেমন: The earth moves round the sun.

/ They were all sitting round the table.

2. around+ সময় বাংলায় অর্থ হবে প্রায়  যেমন:----It is around 8 o’clock.

Past পাশ দিয়ে 

Past+------ বাংলায় অর্থ হবে পাশদিয়ে  যেমন:----He walked past me without talking.

Beside(পাশে)

Beside + Noun/Pronoun বাংলায় অর্থ হবে পাশে যেমন:--সে আমার পাশে বসেছিল - He sat beside me.

In front of(সামনে) /Behind(পিছনে)

Infront of+Noun/Pronoun বাংলায় অর্থ হবে সামনে অনুরূপভাবে Behind +Noun/Pronoun বাংলায় অর্থ হবে পিছনে। যেমন:- He sat in front of me but hehind you.

Under(নিচে)

1. কোন কিছুর ঠিক নিচে বোঝাতে বসে -We took rest under a banyan tree. / Keep the bag under the table.

2. কারো অধীনে কাজ করা বা কোন অবস্থায় থাকা অর্থে-I am doing under Mr. Robert. / Try to keep the boy under control.

3. শাসনামল বোঝাতে -Were we in peace under British rules?

4.  প্রক্রিয়াধীন বোঝাতে -He can work hard under pressure. Your proposal was under consideration.

5.  অনুযায়ী অর্থে-Under the term, he would be punished if he fails to repay.

6. কোন কিছু দিয়ে ঢাকা বুঝাতে বা উপরীভাগের নীচে বুঝাতে বসে -Most of the ice berg is under the water. / Under the mountain, there is a network of caves.

7. নিকটে বুঝানোর জন্য -There is a village under the hill.

8. বয়সে কম বুঝানোর জন্য-Many children under five go to nursery school. / If you are under 6, you can buy half rail tickets.

9. সময়, দুরত্ব বা পরিমানের দিক দিয়ে কম বুঝানোর জন্য-It is under a mile from here to the post office. / It took us under an hour to reach.

10. পদের (rank) দিক দিয়ে নীচে বুঝানোর জন্য- No one under the rank of captain enters the room.

11. নিমজ্জিত বা আচ্ছাদিত বুঝাতে - The whole village is under water.

12. ছাড়া কিছু Expression এ বসে যেমন:-- under repair, under construction(নির্মানাধীন), under consideration(বিবেচনাধীন), under arms(অস্ত্রসস্ত্র সজ্জিত), under trial (বিচারাধীন), under sentence(দন্ডাদেশপ্রাপ্ত)
