1.2.a- The Determiner-Introduction

The Determiner

যে সকল শব্দ বা শব্দ সমষ্টি কোন noun এর আগে বসে কোন noun এর নির্দিষ্টতা বা অনির্দিষ্টতা বা সংখ্যা বা পরিমান বা মালিকানা প্রকাশ করে তাকে Determiner বলে।

যেমনঃ-    He reads a book./  I have lost the pen. / Some boys were making a noise in the class. / He will buy two shirts. /I have a few friends there.

উপরের উদাহরণগুলির মধ্যে pen, noise class, shirts friends এই গুলোর পূর্বে a, the, a, two, the, a few শব্দগুলি বসেছে। এই গুলিই Determiners.

মূলতঃ Determiners দুই ধরনের। যথাঃ-

a) Specific Determiner

b) General Determiner

a) Specific Determiner:- কোন কিছুকে বা কাউকে নির্দিষ্ট করে চেনার জন্য যে সমস্ত Determiners ব্যবহার করা হয়, সেগুলিকে Specific Determiner বলা হয়। যেমনঃ-

The boys are playing in the field. -এখানে The শব্দটি Specific Determiner

b) General Determiner:-  কোন কিছুকে বা কাউকে অনির্দিষ্ট করে চেনার জন্য বা সাধারণভাবে চেনার জন্য যে সমস্ত  Determiners ব্যবহার করা হয় সেগুলিকে General Determiner বলা হয়। যেমনঃ- Some weak students were reading in the class.

এখানে Some শব্দটি General Determiner.

Determiners হল ৫টি যথা:

 (a) Articles: a, an, the.

 (b) Demonstrative  (ইঙ্গিত বাচক শব্দ):  This, that, These, Those,

 (c) Possessive (র/এর বাচক শব্দ):  My, his, her, your, our, its, their.

(d) Numerals (সংখ্যাবাচক শব্দ):  Two, three, four, five, etc.

(e) Quantifiers   (পরিমানবাচক শব্দ):  Some, many, much, a lot, all, few, enough, either, neither, a great deal of, a lot of, plenty of, several, a great number of.
