ব্যতিক্রম

h (হ)  উচ্চারিত না হলে তার পূর্বে  an

One ছাড়া O দ্বারা শুরু- এমন সকল শব্দের পূর্বে an

an ox / an opera / an orange (তবে  a one-eyed man)

E/ U -এর উচ্চারণ যদি ’ইউ’ হয় তাহলে তার পূর্বে- a

a European / a uniform (তবে  an umbrella )

সংক্ষিপ্ত শব্দের প্রথম অক্ষর Consonant sound হলে a

a B.A/B.A.G/B.Sc.

সংক্ষিপ্ত শব্দের প্রথম অক্ষর Vowel sound হলে an

an M.A/MP/MBA / FRCS/FCPS

যার সংঙ্গে কাউকে তুলনা করা হয় তার পূর্বে a/an
