A
Abhorrence of (ঘৃনা)-I have no abhorrence of beef.
Abhorrent to (ঘৃন্য)-Beef is not abhorrent to me.
Abide by (মেনে চলা)-You should abide by the rules.
Abide with (person) (সাথে থাকা) — He abides with his parents.
Abide at /in (place)( বাস করা) — He abides in Dhaka.
Abound in (থাকা) — Fish abounds in this pond.
Abound with (পরিপূর্ন) — The river abounds with fish.
Absent from (অনুপস্থিত) — He was absent from school.
Absorbed in (নিমগ্ন) — He is absorbed in studies.
Access to (প্রবেশাধিকার) — Rafik has no access to this garden.
Acceptable to somebody অর্থ- কারো কাছে গ্রহণযোগ্য- Your offer is acceptable to me.
According to (অনুসারে) —According to your order I went there.
Accompanied by (সঙ্গী হওয়া) — He was accompanied by his father.
Accompanied with (সঙ্গী হওয়া) — He has been suffering from fever accompanied with headache.
Account for- দায়ী- Who will account for the loss?
Acquainted with (পরিচিত) — I am acquainted with him.
Accused of (অভিযুক্ত) — He is accused of theft.
Accustomed to (অভ্যস্থ) — I am accustomed to such a life.
Acquit (one) of (খালাস দেয়া) — I acquit you of the charge.
Add to (যোগ করা) — Add this to that.
Adhere to- অর্থ কোন কিছুর সাথে দৃঢ় সংলগ্ন হওয়া, অনুগত হওয়া- I shall adhere to my plan.
Addicted to (আসক্ত) — He is addicted to wine.
Adjacent to (সন্নিকটে) — His school is adjacent to his house.
Admit of (যোগ্য হওয়া / অবকাশ থাকা)— Your conduct admits of no excuse.
Admit to (ভর্তি করা) — He was admitted to class seven.
Admit into (অনুমতি দেয়া) — He was admitted into the room.
Affection for(স্নেহ) — the teacher feels affection for every pupil.
Affectionate to(স্নেহশীল) — He is affectionate to me.
Afraid of (ভীত) — I am not afraid of ghosts.
Agree with (a person), on (a point), to (a proposal) — সম্মত হওয়া
I agree with you on this point, but I cannot agree to all the proposals.
N.B যদি agree এর পর ব্যক্তিবাচক শব্দ Object থাকে তাহলে with বসবে আর যদি কোন বিষয় উল্লেখ থাকে তাহলে on বসে আর যদি কোন proposal বা প্রস্তাব উল্লেখ থাকে তাহলে to বসে।
Aim at (তাক করা) — He aimed his gun at the bird.
Alarmed at (আতংকগ্রস্থ) — We were alarmed at the news.
Allot to (বন্ঠন করা) — One room has been allotted to him.
Alternative to (বিকল্প) — This question is alternative to that.
Aloof from (দূরে থাকা) Keep yourself aloof from bad company.
Ambition for (উচ্চাকাংখা) — He has no ambition for fame in life.
Angry with (a person), for (something), at (one's conduct) রাগান্বিত —
He is angry with me for speaking against him. I am angry at your conduct.
N.B. যদি angry এর পর ব্যক্তিবাচক শব্দ Object থাকে তাহলে with বসবে আর যদি কোন কিছুর জন্য রাগান্বিত হওয়া বুঝায় তাহলে for বসে আর যদি কারও ব্যবহারে রাগান্বিত হওয়া বুঝায় তাহলে at বসে, কোন বিষয়ে রাগান্বিত হলে about বসে।
Annoyed with (a person), for (something) বিরক্ত—I was annoyed with him for being late.
Antipathy to কোন বিষয়ের প্রতি বিতৃষ্ণা, ঘৃণা বা বিরাগ- He has an antipathy to smoking.
Anxious about, for (উদ্বিগ্ন) — I am anxious about your health. He is anxious for getting a job.
Appeal to (a person), for (something), against (a wrong) আবেদন করা —
He appealed to the Headmaster for pardon. They appealed against the verdict of the lower court.
N.B যদি appeal এর পর ব্যক্তিবাচক শব্দ Object থাকে তাহলে to বসবে অর্থাৎ কারও কাছে আবেদন করা বুঝায় আর যদি কোন কিছুর জন্য আবেদন করা বুঝায় তাহলে for বসে আর যদি কোন কোন কিছুর বিরুদ্ধে আবেদন করা বুঝায় তাহলে against বসে।
Appetite for (ক্ষুধা) — The patient has no appetite for food.
Apply to (a person), for (a thing) আবেদন করা —He applied to the Secretary for the post.
Apprehensive of অর্থ কোন কিছু সম্পর্কে উদ্বিগ্ন থাকা- I am never apprehensive of my success.
Aptitude for (দক্ষতা) —I have no aptitude for English.
Arrive at (পৌছানো) — We arrived at the station in time.
Assure of- আশ্বস্ত করা, নিশ্চয়তা দেয়া- He has assured me of safety.
Argue with (a person), for or against (a thing) তর্ক করা —I argued with him for (or against) the point.
Assign to (নির্দিষ্ট করে দেয়া) — He assigned the task to me.
Ashamed of (কোন কিছুর জন্য লজ্জিত) — He is not ashamed of his conduct.
Ashamed for (কারও জন্য লজ্জিত)— I feel ashamed for you.
Attend to (মনোযোগ দেয়া)—Attend to your lesson.
Attach to (যুক্ত করা)—Attach this slip to the letter.
Attend on (upon) (সেবা করা)—She attends on (upon) her mother.
Authority Over- কোন কিছুর উপর কর্তৃত্ব/নিয়ন্ত্রণ- The parents should have authority over their sons and daughters.
Avail (oneself) of (সুযোগ গ্রহণ করা)—You must avail yourself of it.
Aware of (সতর্ক)-He is aware of the fact.

Bad at কোন কিছুতে মন্দ- I am not bad at tennis
Beg (a Person ) for (a thing) ভিক্ষা করা —He begged me for the favour.
Beg (a thing) of (a person)—He begged the favour of me.
Believe in (বিশ্বাস করা)— I do not believe in his honesty.
Belong to (আওতাভুক্ত/মালিক হওয়া)—This book belongs to me.
Bent on (ইচ্ছুক)—He is bent on doing this.
Beware of (সতর্ক হওয়া)—Beware of pick-pockets.
Blessed with—(অধিকারী হওয়া) He is blessed with good health.
Blessed in (সুখি / কোন কিছুর দ্বারা আশীর্বাদ প্রাপ্ত) — He is blessed in his children.
Blind of (চোখে অন্ধ) —He is blind of one eye.
Blind to (কারও দোষের প্রতি অন্ধ)—He is blind to his own faults.
Blush with, for (অরক্তিম বদন হওয়া)—She blushed with shame. There is no cause to blush for me.
Boast of (অহংকার করা)—Do not boast of your wealth.
Born of, in (জন্মগ্রহণ করা)—He was born of poor parents. He was born in Poverty.
Bound for (যাত্রা করা)—The ship is bound for England.
Bring to অর্থ- আনা- My sister brings color and happiness to my life.
Break in- কোন কিছুতে বিঘ্ন ঘটানো- Its impolite to break in when someone else is talking.
Brood on, over (চিন্তা করে মন খারাপ করা)—Do not brood over your misfortune.
Burst into (কান্নায় ভেঙে পড়া)—He burst into tears at the sad news.
Burst out (হেসে গড়িয়ে পড়া)—He burst out laughing at my joke.
Busy with (ব্যস্ত)-He is busy with his studies.

Callous to (উদাসীন)—He is callous to my suffering.
Call off- বন্ধ রাখা- They had to call off the match as the ground was wet.
Capable of (সক্ষম)—He is capable of doing this alone.
Capacity for (সক্ষম)—He has no capacity for hard work.
Care for (গ্রাহ্য করা)—I do not care for you.
Care of (যত্ন নেয়া)-Take care of your health.
Careful of (সতর্ক)—He is careful of his money.
Certain of (নিশ্চিত)—He is now certain of his ground.
Charge (a person) with (a fault), (অভিযুক্ত) - He charged me with theft.
Charged on (against) (a person) (অভিযুক্ত) -Theft was charged on (against) him.
Close to (কাছাকাছি)-The school is very close to our house.
Clue to (সূত্র)-Find out the clue to the mystery.
Come of (জন্মগ্রহণ করা)—He comes of a noble family.
Come back from- কোথাও থেকে ফেরত আসা অর্থে - Rahim has not yet come back from the bazaar.
Come round- আরোগ্য হওয়া- When we found him he was unconscious but he came round in half an hour.
Commence on (শুরু হওয়া)—Our examination commences on the 3rd July.
Comment on (মন্তব্য করা)—He commented favourably on the point.
Compare with (similar things)( তুলনা করা)—Rabindranath may be compared with Shakespeare.
Compare to (dissimilar things)( তুলনা করা)—Anger is compared to fire.
N.B যদি ব্যক্তিবাচক শব্দের সাথে ব্যাক্তিবাচক শব্দের তুলনা হয় তাহলে with বসবে আর যদি বস্তুবাচক শব্দের সাথে বস্তুবাচক শব্দের তুলনা হয় তাহলে to বসবে
Compete with (some one), for (something)( প্রতিদ্বন্দ্বিতা করা)—I competed with him for the first prize.
Complain to (a person),( কারও কাছে অভিযোগ করা)—They complained to the M.D about his behaviour.
Complain against (another)( কারও বিরুদ্ধে অভিযোগ করা)—They complained against me.
Complain about (something) (কোন বিষয়ে অভিযোগ করা)—They complained about my misbehaviour.
Comply with (সম্মত হওয়া)—I shall comply with your request.
Composed of (গঠিত হওয়া)—Water is composed of Hydrozen and Oxygen.
Conducive to- কোন কিছুর প্রতি উপকারী- Swimming is conducive to health.
Confident of (নিশ্চিত)—I am confident of success.
Confined in (a room), to (bed) (আবদ্ধ)-He is confined in a room for five days. He is confined to bed.
Congratulate on (অভিনন্দন জানানো)—I congratulate you on your success.
Congenial to অর্থ উপযোগী বা স্বাস্থসম্মত হওয়া- The climate is congenial to health.
Conscious of (সচেতন)—He is conscious of his weakness.
Consist of (গঠিত হওয়া)-This class consists of fifty boys.
Consistent with (সংগতিপূর্ণ)-Your action is not consistent with the rules.
Consult with (a person) (কারও সাথে পরামর্শ করা) —I consulted with him on the matter.
Consult on or about (a thing) (কোন বিষয়ে পরামর্শ করা) —I consulted with him on /about the matter
Contrary to (বিপক্ষে)-His action is contrary to his words.
Contribute to (অবদান রাখা)-He contributed one thousand rupees to the Flood Relief Fund.
Control over (নিয়ন্ত্রন)—He has no control over his brother.
Compensate for অর্থ ক্ষতিপূরণ - He will compensate you for the loss.
Count for (গণ্য করা) —His advice counts for nothing.
Count upon (নির্ভর করা)—I count upon your help for this work.
Cure of (আরোগ্য হওয়া)—He will be cured of the disease very soon.
Cope with (মানিয়ে চলা /পেরে উঠা)—I cannot cope with the situation.

Desist from- কোন কিছু হতে নিবৃত্ত হওয়া- He advised us to desist from that attempt.

Despair of (হতাশা)—Do not despair of success.
Destined to (নির্দিষ্ট)-He was destined to death.
Devoid of (শুন্য)-He is devoid of common sense.
Devote to (নিযুক্ত করা)—He devotes much time to study.
Die of (a disease), from (an effect), for (a cause) by (poison), in (peace) (মারা যাওয়া)—He died of cholera. He died from over-eating. He died for his country, He died by poison. Let me die in peace.
N.B যদি রোগে মারা যাওয়া বুঝায় তাহলে die এর পর Of বসবে আর যদি কোন কারণে মারা যায় তাহলে from বসে আর যদি কারও জন্য মারা যায় তাহলে for বসে।
Differ with (a person), on (a point), in (opinion)( ভিন্ন হওয়া)—I differ with you on this point. They differ in their opinions.
Differ from (ভিন্ন হওয়া)—This thing differs from that.
Difference between (ভিন্ন )—There is no difference between the two brothers.

Diffident of (সংশয়ী)—I am diffident of success.
Difficulty in কোন কিছুতে কঠিন- I don’t think you will have difficulty in getting a driving license.
