Introduction: (Before the exam starts)
The scene in an examination hall is pretty intense. Just before the bell rings for the start of the examination, the exam hall is noisy and chaotic. Most candidates are busy finding their seats. Here and there, a few may be seen feverishly turning over the pages of books while some form groups to discuss all sorts of possible questions. Some are seen to be seated at their seats and mumbling, praying to their Almighty while a few just sits quietly as if afraid that everything they learnt will slip out of their mouth if they open it.
After the exam starts:
As the exam bell rings, gradually the noises subside. Candidates take their respective seats. As the scripts are being distributed they submit their books and notes to the invigilators and get ready. The next minute everyone is busy writing their roll number and other requirements of the answer script.
Then the question papers are handed out. Each examinee grabs his paper and skims through it. Here and there few faces light up with recognition and happy smiles. It is clear that their expectation of having some common questions is fulfilled. On the other hand many look up blankly as if searching their minds for things that seem to have faded away. Perhaps a sympathetic invigilator may say a couple of encouraging words to them and wearily they apply themselves to their scripts hoping against hope that their luck will play its part.
However, the studious ones by this time are deeply absorbed in answering their papers; others also follow their example though with less assurance and confidence. Throughout the examination, the hall remains very silent except the rustling of papers and the scratching of pens, and the measured tread of the invigilators walking up and down.
When the examination time finishes:
And thus the examination duration comes to a close. Some submit their papers ahead of time and walk out. Many have finished writing all that they know and idly turn over the pages to revise. From time to time, the invigilators announce the warning of the remaining time. Finally the bell rings. Papers are taken away; most give up their scripts as soon as the invigilator arrives and some feverishly ask for extra time and are mostly refused. All the candidates go out of the hall. A few are sure that they failed and some of them even resolve to tears.
Conclusion:
In actual experience, an examination hall wears forbidding look in general and many might not look back at it with amusement. It might cause regret and for a few handfuls, cause a feeling of accomplishment. However, for everyone it creates a sense of relief that it passed.
