Introduction:
It is said that nature can be enjoyed at its fullest in the calm of the morning. A winter morning is very cold and misty. Normally it is an idle beginning of the day. However, for the poor and homeless people it means more hardship and torture. Nonetheless, a winter morning is mainly a gloomy, foggy and misty beginning of the day.
Winter morning in Bangladesh ( arrival, people’s activities, weather etc)
In Bangladesh, winter begins at the end of November and lasts till February. In the Bengali calendar it occurs mainly in Poush and Magh month.
The morning is very cold and foggy. Nothing can be viewed outside due to the dense fog wrapping the surroundings. Everything seems hazy. The grass remains wet with dew drops. The sun cannot be seen for a long due to the dense fog. As a result, all daily activities start late. When the first ray of sun is seen, the dew drops sparkle like diamonds. The trees look dead without their leaves. Even the animals and birds cannot come out. The nature looks dead and gloomy.
People gather straw and dry leaves and light fire to keep them warm. They gather around the fire and love to chat about different topics. Most of the people enjoy the warmth of the blanket and tend to sleep more. As the sun peeps out, daily activities gradually begin. Working people have to sacrifice their sleep and go out in the cold. Schools and offices start late. Most schools have their exams during winter. So streets are crowded by tensed students and their parents.
Date juice sellers become busy for selling date juice from door to door. The stalls become crowded with people sipping tea and trying to get some warmth. A winter morning, indeed, is incomplete without a nice cup of steaming tea.
Some delicacies and traditions:
Another must mentionable thing of a winter morning is eating native cakes which are called ‘Pithas’ in Bangla. The foggy morning is flavored by the steaming hot Pithas made from ground rice and seasonal date-palm molasses. Making pithas in winter morning is a tradition of our country, both in villages and cities. Moreover, markets are flooded with fresh vegetables and fruits like cabbages, cauliflowers, carrots, peas, tomatoes etc.
Specialties of winter:
Outings, picnics, educational and religious programs and even political activities receive a fresh start during winters. Buses loaded with people going out for picnic are often seen in the streets. Winter is considered the best time for travelling in Bangladesh when the weather is dry and fresh. So the number of tourists arriving in Bangladesh increases in winter. Moreover, Bangladesh offers varied bird watching opportunities, especially during the winter season. Lakes are crowded with a large number of migratory bird species that include rare forest birds like Herons, Hornbills, Pheasants, Laughing Thrushes, Babblers, Raptors, Jacanas, waders, passerines, Kingfishers, Kites, Eagles etc.
Disadvantages:
A winter morning is not a blessing to the ones afflicted with poverty. They often do not have warm clothes and shiver in the cold .In the northern districts of Bangladesh the cold is unbearable and often people die out of cold. The homeless people suffer a lot.
Conclusion:
A winter morning is basically an idle start of the day. The mist and fog add mystery to the beauty of nature. Normally people enjoy a winter morning but it causes great suffering to the poor and homeless. Nevertheless, it never fails to charm people with its unique beauty.
