Basic Guidelines
The oral examination is the self-presentation of one's qualifications in front of the examiners. In English it is called Oral test or Viva. Its full form is Viva Voce. A student's range of subjects is known in the written test. If a student studies a lot, he can do very well in written exams. But he may not be physically or mentally fit. A student's taste, intelligence, behavior, manners etc. are revealed through his oral examination. Again a student may be physically or behaviorally qualified but not mentally qualified. This is why it is said that mental intelligence is the first condition of oral examination. The depth of knowledge of a student is not known in the written test, it is known through the oral test.
BCS exam in Bangladesh is a highly competitive exam and oral exam is an important step in this competitive exam. 100 marks were fixed in the oral examination from 27th BCS. Again from 30th BCS the mark of oral exam has been increased from 100 to 200. This has increased the importance of Viva. If one does fairly well in the written test, if he does well in the oral test, he has a chance of succeeding in BCS. On the other hand if one does well in the written test and bad in the oral test, his chances of success in BCS are greatly reduced. That's why oral exam is very important. Some important aspects of oral examination are discussed below.
What the VIVA Board Wants from Contestants
BCS VIVA board always selects candidates for jobs who are fit in all aspects, they prefer candidates who know something about everything.
First of all, the board does not want to embarrass anyone. That's why he made it easy by first asking the name, address, name of parents, occupation of the contestants. Only after a contestant gets Easy does the board slowly delve deeper into the questions. Basically, they want a VIVA candidate to make a total presentation about everything in front of the board without hesitation. In the meantime, they get a clear idea about the quality and talent of the candidate.
The board sees whether the job seeker has the awareness of the country or how clear the problem is in the country and its solution. As an administrator, the board members also verified how capable he is in solving the country's problems.
Through questions, the board also tries to know whether the candidate has a competitive mentality or a normal mentality in difficult situations.
Candidate must have smartness and smiling face. The board feels that if the Administrator is of such a nature, any common problem will be solved immediately.

Academic good record is definitely important in getting one's job. But the Board dislikes such a record holder if he lacks other normal overall knowledge; Rather, if he is a jack of all trades with a relatively worse academic record, then the board prefers him more.
In any matter who has Innovative Knowledge or creative thinking, i.e. in any matter, if a job seeker has a new positive thinking and expresses interest in implementing it, then the Board prefers him.
Candidate must be More Informative in getting job so that he has an ernest egerness of reading/knowing. In most of the issues of the country and abroad, no deep knowledge is needed, just a light knowledge will do. Basically, the board checks that the candidate has upgrade information about almost everything. Those who have such characteristics can read the board easily.
Candidate must know about himself and inform the board. Must be able to speak about yourself in English for 5/10 minutes. In this regard, the board prefers those who have fluency in English.
The board likes the job seeker who has a vision. If the candidate is given the job, if the board likes what he has planned for the job, then the board does not hesitate to select him.
Again a positive answer as to why the job seeker wants the job as per his applied Choice or whether he is eligible to get the job acts as a plus point in getting the job. In this case, the board should provide satisfactory answers to all the above questions.
Board always prefer confident candidates. Because no one can succeed in his work without confidence, and BCS officials need more confidence to succeed. Again 1st class job seeker must be honest. But that should be explained to the board through word of mouth. Board Prefers Honest Candidates.

The job seeker must have a clear idea about the job type, features, objectives of the post applied for. Again he must know which ministry/department his office is under or who is the minister/state minister/deputy minister of that ministry. The board prefers someone who has a good understanding of these facts.
Candidates who answer satisfactorily in the subject matter studied in his/her Honors/Masters are easily able to get the Board's consideration.
Candidates should know the names of famous people in the subject in which they have done Honours-Masters. Remember the name and achievements of famous teachers in your department. board
